Happy Nurse Practitioner Week - November 13-19, 2016

Posted about 1 year ago by Jeanine Swygman

Happy Nurse Practitioner week to all our esteemed nurse practitioner colleagues!

According to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), there are over 222,000 NPs in the U.S. today. NPs can treat and prescribe in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. There are 870 million patient visits made to NP annually.

NPs provide high quality, cost-effective, holistic care to patients and their families throughout the healthcare continuum, and have well documented excellent patient care outcomes. NPs excel in health education and help facilitate informed health decision-making.

This upcoming 2017 legislative session we are looking to fully realize autonomous practice in Nevada through a clean-up global signature authority bill for all APRNs. We are also supporting our CRNA colleagues in re-defeating a bill that will allow anesthesia assistants (AAs) into Nevada.  This proposed legislation will decrease the quality of anesthesia care while increasing the cost.

Since AB 170 passed in 2013 giving APRNs full autonomous practice, APRNs have been welcomed to the healthcare policy table, which is unprecedented.  As we often say, "If you are not at the healthcare policy table, you are likely on the menu!"  Thank you for all the excellent care you provide for our fellow Nevadans and for being an integral part of the healthcare solution!
