Governor Sandoval recognized Nevada APRNs by proclaiming the week of November 12-18, 2017 as Nurse Practitioner Week in Nevada (see attached)! National NP Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the valuable role of the NP as we celebrate more than 50 years of practice. There are approximately 234.000 NPs in the U.S., with 23,000 graduating NP students adding to our ranks annually.
APRNs are becoming increasingly recognized as being an essential part of the health care solution for Nevada. The cost-effectiveness and health care quality provided by APRNs is acknowledged across the health care continuum.
The 2017 Nevada legislative session was a successful one for APRNs, with the passage of SB 227, a clean-up bill allowing an APRN to provide his or her signature, certification, stamp, verification, or endorsement when required by a physician, when it is within the authorized scope of practice of the APRN. This law helps APRNs practice to the full extent of their education, training, and certification which was authorized by AB 170 in 2013. Moving forward to the next legislative session, NAPNA is looking at ways to for APRNs to help improve access to primary care and mental health, particularly in the underserved areas both rural and urban.
Thank you all for the excellent, evidence-based, and patient-focused care you provide! Happy Nurse Practitioner Week!
