NAPNA Legislative Updates

Posted about 6 years ago by Cindy Pitlock

Dear APRN colleagues:

We are reaching the end of the 2019 legislative session! NAPNA leadership has been very active on your behalf further supporting full-scope practice authority within our defined scope of practice. We have collaborated with and testified with many groups and stakeholders and have received enthusiastic support for our contributions to high quality care to Nevada's healthcare recipients. Please know that your legislators expressed great pride in you!!!

Along with our lobbyist Chelsea Capurro, Griffin & Associates, we tracked 47 bills for potential impact on APRN practice. Of greatest note are AB 147, SB 134, and SB 456. For detailed language of these bills I recommend going to the Nevada State Legislature site. I also recommend you listen to and view the testimony that was provided on your behalf. Not only will it allow you to understand the process, but you will get to view and listen to your supporters!

AB 147 and SB 134 were clean up language bills relative to signature authority.

SB 456 passed in support of authorizing a hospital to grant admission of APRN's to medical staff membership. This is in alignment with national VA practices.

We were thrilled to represent you and will continue to do so as there is much work yet to still do on behalf of the cohort. As always, be sure you are clear on your scope of practice. If you have specific scope of practice questions please review legislation and contact the Nevada State Board of Nursing. It is not appropriate for NAPNA to give scope of practice or legal advice.

As always a strong membership is necessary for effective representation. Numbers do matter, and we are often asked how many APRN's we represent.

Have a super day.
