From NAPNA leadership - past successes/future plans

A message from NAPNA leadership – past successes/future plans

I recently had a conversation with a colleague about sustaining a robust membership and how important this really is. I was a little surprised when the colleague stated that members are unsure what they are getting for their money and “want something in return”. So I thought this would be a great time to remind everyone what NAPNA does and how NAPNA represents and serves APRN’s in Nevada. I want to encourage your continued support and renewed membership. Please know that it is essential for us to reach our full potential on remaining issues. Civic engagement is an ongoing component and we need to have an active voice in the issues and policies that shape our careers. NAPNA is the only APRN organization that has a contract lobbyist fighting for us daily. So here is what has been and what is currently being done on your behalf!

  • Sponsored and successfully advocated for APRN autonomous practice in 2013
  • Monthly sponsored dinners with great opportunity for dining, networking, and learning
  • CEU events to help meet requirements
  • Sponsorship and passage of APRN signature recognition; including POLST forms, DMV forms, handicapped placards, death certificates
  • Participation in the opioid bill language and revisions
  • Participation in the suicide bill language
  • Participation in the passage of the regulation allowing APRN’s to be exempt lab directors for point of care testing such as UPT, fingersticks, rapid strep/influenza without a physician medical director
  • Participation with the Board of Nursing while developing regulation language relative to the release of Legal 2000 forms
  • Donation of thousands of dollars in scholarship money to our student members
  • The maintenance of or contract lobbyist who advocates for the protection and advancement of our practice ****ONLY Nevada APRN organization with a contract lobbyist
  • Meetings with legislators and key stakeholders to educate about who APRN’s are, what we do and promotion of elimination of barriers to full practice
  • Participation in successful defeat of the Anesthesia Assistant bill

We are currently in the process of mapping and planning advocacy for reimbursement issues and monitoring the interim legislative committees. The board has made reimbursement issues a priority. For less than one nice dinner out, you can be part of NAPNA and support our efforts to advocate for your practice! Member numbers matter and it is fabulous to tell or legislators how many APRN’s we represent. Please join or renew today and help continue to shape our practice future!
